According to some studies, it is estimated that around 80% of all car seats are not installed properly. What’s worse is that many people never bother to check to see if a car seat has been recalled (especially if it is a used car seat bought from a garage sale or handed down from a relative). As a result the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHSTA) has partnered with several child care and automotive companies (including DaimlerChrysler) to create the Seat Check hotline and web site. You can log on to www.seatcheck.org or call their toll-free number 866-SEAT-CHECK (866-732-8243) to find out about recalls, schedule a FREE car seat inspection, and other child safety information.
